Indications
– Treatment of drug induced Vitamin B6 deficiency.
– Treatment of hereditary sideroblastic anemia.
– Prophylaxis and treatment of seizures in overdosage of Cycloserine.
– Treatment of seizures or coma in acute Isoniazid toxicity.

Actions
Pyridoxine hydrochloride (Vitamin B6) is a water– soluble vitamin, which is present in many foods including cereal grains, legumes, vegetables, liver, meat, and eggs. Vitamin B6 take part in the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates and fats. Besides, it is also required for the synthesis of GABA in CNS and the
formation of hemoglobin.
Contra-Indications
Hypersensitivity to any ingredient of the medicine.
Side effect
– Long– term (more than 2 months) use of 200mg daily may lead to development of severe peripheral neuropathies, progressing from unsteady gait and numbness and pricking in the toes and soles of the feet and advancement to the wrists and hand. These symptoms may resolve at discontinuation of the drug, although some sequelae.
– Rare: nausea, vomiting.

Precaution
Prolonged use of high doses of Pyridoxine may develop neuropathies (severe peripheral neuropathies, sensory neuropathy).
PREGNANCY & LACTATION:
It may be used at daily requirement intake during pregnancy and lactation.
Interaction
– Vitamin B6 antagonizes the effect of Levodopa, therefore avoid concomitant use.
– Isoniazid, Penicillamine and oral contraceptives may alter either the metabolism or bioavailability of Vitamin B6.
OVERDOSAGE & MANAGEMENT:
Should overdosage occur, turn to the nearest healthcare facility for medical attention of the healthcare professionals.

Storage
Store in a dry place (RH ≤ 70%), not exceeding 30oC. Protect from light.
Dosage
– Treatment of drug induced Vitamin B6 deficiency, a common dose of Vitamin B6 1 tablet daily in 3 weeks.
– Treatment of hereditary sideroblastic anemia, a common dose of Vitamin B6 1 – 3 tablets daily.
– Prophylaxis of seizures in patients receiving Cycloserine, 100 – 300mg in divided doses daily.
– Treatment of overdosage of Cycloserine, 300mg daily.
– Treatment of seizures or coma in acute Isoniazid toxicity, a dose of Vitamin B6 , at least equivalent to the amount of Isoniazid ingested, with other anticonvulsive.
