Indications

Symptomatic of non– productive coughs, especially night cough (cough due to allergy and irritation).

Present

Vial of 24 capsules. Box of 1 bottle.

Composition

Paracetamol …………………………………………. 33.3mg
Sodium benzoate…………………………………..33.3mg
Guaifenesin…………………………………………. 33.3mg
Oxomemazine hydrochloride…………………..1.65mg
Excipients s.q. for ……………………………… 1 capsule
(Povidone, Lactose, Ethanol 96%, Talc, Cassava starch, Colloidal silicon dioxide, Magnesium stearate).

Actions

– Oxomemazine is an anti– histamine H1 agent used for the symptomatic treatment of coughs.
– Guaifenesin is an expectorant agent.
– Sodium benzoate stimulates bronchial secretion.
– Paracetamolis an analgesic and antipyretic agent.

Contra-Indications

– Respiratory dysfunction (due to Oxomemazine).
– Hepatocellular dysfunction (due to Paracetamol).
– History of agranulocytosis, glaucoma, difficulty in urination.
– Hypersensitivity to any ingredient of the medicine.

Side effect

– Drowsiness.
– Atropin– like effects: increased viscosity of bronchial secretion, dry mouth, ocular accommodation disorders, constipation, urinary retention.
– Rare digestive reactions: anorexia, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.

Precaution

– It is recommended to determine the cause of coughing in order to find effective specific therapy especially in the following conditions: bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, coughs induced by bronchoconstrictive agents, bronchial– pulmonary cancer or infections, left ventricular heart failure, pulmonary embolism, pleural effusion.
– If coughing is not decreased by regular dosage do not increase the dosage but check the health status of the patient.
– Do not exposure to direct sunlight or UV during the therapy.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION:
Avoid use this medicine for pregnant women and nursing mothers.

Interaction

Do not use this medicine in combination with the following drugs:
– Levodopa: due to the antagonism between Levodopa and sedative agents.
– Zidovudine: increasing hematotoxicity (increased plasma Zidovudine concentration due to inhibition of glucuronidation).
– Alcohol: alcohol increases sedative effects of the sedative agents, decreases mental concentration therefore it may pose danger to patient who is driving or operating machinery. Avoid drinking alcoholic beverage and drugs containing alcohol.
– Guanethidine and its derivative: inhibition hypotensive action of Guanethidine (inhibiting Guanethidine uptake at sympathetic nerve endings where Guanethidine exerts its action).
– Magnesium, Aluminum and Calcium salts, oxides and hydroxides (gastrointestinal antacids): decrease enteral absorption of Phenothiazine sedative drugs. If needed, they should be taken at least 2 hours apart.
OVERDOSAGE:
Should overdosage occur, turn to the nearest healthcare facility for medical attention of the healthcare professionals.

Storage

Store in a dry place (RH ≤ 70%), not exceeding 30oC. Protect from light.

Dosage

– Adults and children > 12 years: 1 – 2 capsules, 2 – 3 times daily.
– Children 8 – 12 years: 1 capsule, 2 – 3 times daily.
– Children 30 months – < 8 years: 1 capsule, 2 times daily. Children < 8 years: as prescribed by physicians.
